More than a writing app, or a productivity tool,  200wad is a community. I mean, it actually says, "We are a community" on the homepage. This is a post about the way I've experienced it.

A while back I made a point of reading as many posts as I could in a day while leaving comments where appropriate. That became a habit, just like the daily writing. But engagement with the app is one thing and community is another. 200wad is a community in a way Facebook or Instagram are not, in spite of certain platform similarities.

Nowhere was it more obvious than in the notifications I found today after logging in for the first time in over a month. Because  a tool, a habit, a streak, these are inanimate objects and concepts. They might take on a certain life of their own, sure, but they aren't individuals. The app wouldn't care if I ever came back (even if it sent push notifications, which it doesn't, ahem), the page doesn't care whether it is blank or full of text. A streak won't miss my posts and my comments.

But people do.

This is what makes 200wad a true community. I found myself, during my absence, wondering about the people. Are the regulars all still there? What is everyone talking about? Is @lucjah still cheerleading as hard as always? @basilesamel still crafting away? And, of course, I had to wonder if anyone noticed my absence.

These were all people questions. They don't have much to do with the site, the app, or even with the writing. I was thinking about the different people on here with whom I'd built some rapport. Writer to writer, human to human. But of course, because it is online and because it is mostly anonymous, it's a lot easier to ignore for a month. Ignore but not forget.

I'd have liked to remain detached and aloof about the whole thing, but I couldn't.

It was heartwarming, in the most literal sense of the word, to see messages from @keni and @abrahamKim, from @efran and the tireless and zany @lucjah with her myriad of 'gemeni' accounts.

Mostly though, it was nice to log back on and see the notifications because it reminded me that coming on here isn't about my writing or my streak, but about belonging to a community I'm pretty fond of.

    @gabrielgreco - With a post like this, you are officially forgiven. But I forgive easy, good luck with the others who are still deciding.

    Welcome back again.

      @gabrielgreco @keni

      I never had to forgive Gabriel lol. I was missing him but I never felt any feelings towards him which would require forgiveness! I'm not that harsh to begin with.

      This post is also great at illustrating why I'm against single private posts. I also think this site is not a writing tool, but rather a writing community. So if you only post once in a day and that post happens to be private, why the hell did you login to write anyways?

      Now if one argues that they use this website simply as their new wordprocessor, then fine then you can do that. But still then at least post one public post alongside that private post. Becaus the point of the streak is to pump out daily something that you're willing to share with people.

      @keni @abrahamKim This is just it. If I wanted a word processor I would've stayed on Word and never came back.
      Forgiven or not, I'm going to have to earn my spot back on the streak train.

      @keni Somehow, I have a feeling I'll be fine either way - but appreciate the sentiments haha.
