The thing about being a nomad is, when you're near the end of your stay in a city, you need to figure out what's next. Today was our day to figure that out. We have 2 weeks left in Sevilla until we're out. We usually try to book around a month in advance so that there are still good Airbnb options and flights available.

Until today, the leading choice was Bucharest, Romania. Somewhere we haven't been! There are bunch of things we consider when looking for our next city.

  • Nomad/startup community
  • Fairly cheap living
  • Great wifi
  • Cheap and convenient flights
  • Bonus: We haven't been there before

Bucharest is outside the Schengen area and it has super fast wifi. However, flights weren't ideal. They were expensive and inconvenient (long layovers). We also had to consider how we would get to Croatia (for out next team retreat!).

We ended up choosing Las Palmas, in Gran Canaria. Great for nomads like us and a chance to experience a bit of island life.

We ended booking our whole chain of flights. From Sevilla to Las Palmas to Dubrovnik to London and finally, back to Toronto. Our second leg in Europe will be over in a couple months. A little sad to think about but it's always nice to be home.

@hum - I'd love a collection of writings about the details of your planning. What sites do you use to book flights? What are your budget considerations? What patterns do you notice revealing themselves in your preferences for ease over nomadic novelty? ( thx in advance )

@hum - also, do you follow some basic dietary guidelines that make it easy to show up in a foreign country and confidently buy food? do you cook? what are the prices of the foods you eat and what's your budget? Do you share meals with your hubby or in some other way economize? ( let me know if you need more questions )
