Yesterday I posted about this site on my Instagram story, and a friend asked me to better explain how and why I use the website in a blog post. So here it is:

My first post on this site was about the bottleneck I was experiencing when it comes to creating content, and how I intended to overcome it. I have multiple interests, and every time I sit to write I feel like I'm being tugged in multiple directions based on the topics I want to write about, the points I want to make on each topic, the problems I want to help people solve, the books I want to write, blog posts I want to create, Twitter threads I wanted to share, and so on.

Because writing felt so overwhelming to me I'd either put it off (i.e. not even show up and sit down to write in the first place), or I would spend hours staring at my notes and list of projects to work on, not being able to decide what to commit to now.

This has changed since using this site because of using this site and because of a decision I made beyond the site, which I'll share in a bit.

How did this site helped me?

200wordsaday helped me to not overthink any stage of the writing process.

I don't stress over choosing a topic to write about, or the actual writing, or the final editing.

If it's good enough, it gets published.

And publishing comes with an additional hurdle: I put myself out there with my writing when I publish. That was an obstacle I wanted to overcome, too.

I now feel a lot more comfortable showing up to write. I know I can write something useful then build on it rather than expect to get everything perfect before sharing.

The decision that I made which helped me overcome the bottleneck is deciding which projects to work on now and which ones to postpone for later. I had over 30 projects I wanted to work on, but decided to focus on only 6.

That way I keep my brain entertained with multiple topics, but can also make progress on these topics.

200 words is an easy target to aim for and it doesn't need a lot of time to write.

This site helps me show up without resistance. It sets me up for success because the goal is practical and realistic.

For those who are just reading this post and haven't signed up yet, I highly recommend that you do, especially if you have ideas you want to clarify for yourself, a message you want to share with the world, and want to be part of a supportive community that will help you make progress with your writing goals.
